DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Edward Prior, London, quadruple cased fusee for Turkish market, 66mm outermost case, two innermost cases silver and bearing London hallmarks for 1868, innermost with "A . T" marking in cameo for casemaker Alford Thickbroom, third case silver mounted brass covered in tortoise shell piqué and containing case paper for Edward and George Prior, closed white metal and brass repoussé outer case of Judaic interest with Star of David engraving to underside, white enamel dial with Turkish numerals, KWKS, lever escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and engraved foliate scrolled balance cock, s#77268. Watch is accompanied by a very attractive silver or silver-plated slide chain with attached fob elements.
CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, will tick in dial down position after a twist but stops within moments when turned dial up, overhaul needed, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few fine and micro-fine scratches; nearly mint dial with some surface dirtiness; fine hands, hour with finish loss; outermost case shows light wear, moderate tarnish, dent to front at center, engraving detail with mild reduction, button latch good, containing scraps of velvet for padding; third case shows little wear, an attractive moderate patina, some dings along perimeter seam, few small splits in tortoise shell bezel, two mild splits in tortoise shell rear near hinge, loss of two piqué elements to bezel, loss of one piqué element to rear; button latch with good function but loss of much of button exterior; second case shows hardly any wear, moderate patina, sharp ding to perimeter seam below button latch, superb engraving detail, button latch good though case closing with some gap due to sharp perimeter ding; innermost case shows little wear, mild patina, some notable dents to lower left perimeter, two sharp small protrusions to rear caused by internal punch marks, some internal solder evident at pendant junction; bow pivots freely with some play at pendant; plastic crystal is currently detached and is bored at center for key access. Chain and attached elements in excellent cosmetic condition with a moderate acquired patina.
